Archetypal Films
Films are one of the most fun ways to do inner work. Listen to your body when you watch your favorites, particularly ones with deep archetypal material such as those listed below.
Lord of The Rings
There really is no comparison when it comes to the beautiful depictions of the mature and shadow archetypes portrayed in the Lord of the Rings Series. From the Light and Shadow King (Aragorn & Sauron), Light and Shadow Wizard (Gandalf & Saruman), anima, animus, and the Great Burden, these films evoke deep feelings in all of us. Watch with a group of friends and have a great discussion after.
Dune
Dune is another one of those stories that so beautifully portrays the archetypes in their pure form. It's like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars birthed a beautiful child, one that eschewed all of their parent's cheesiness and emphasized visionary experience. Villenueve really outdid himself with his adaptation of Frank Herbert's classic novel. One of its greatest strengths is in honoring both the masculine and feminine archetypes.
Blade Runner
This classic explores the very fundamental aspects of what it is to be human: to be aware of ourselves and of our inevitable demise. Why did our creator build mortality into the design? All just tears in the rain...
Arrival
This film is an absolute blueprint for what to expect when you are on the path of Self-exploration and awakening, as well as the most impeccable guide to establishing harmony both within ourselves and in the world. Confrontation with the unknown, the merging of dreams and reality, leaps of faith, and the diminution of time: this film has it all.
